Football Stadiums

Mast and roof-mounted LED floodlighting for football and rugby stadiums, from league training levels to broadcast matches.

What the light has to do

A football stadium is lit for three audiences at once: the players, the spectators and — at higher levels — the cameras. Horizontal illuminance on the pitch matters for play; vertical illuminance towards the main cameras matters for broadcast; uniformity matters for both, because a ball crossing a dark patch on a long pass is hard to read.

Layout options

  • Four-corner masts — the classic arrangement for existing grounds without a roof. Long throw distances call for narrow beams and careful control of glare for goalkeepers.
  • Side lighting from roof trusses or masts — a continuous band along both touchlines gives better modelling and vertical illuminance for cameras, and is standard where the stand roof can carry the load.
  • Combined — roof-mounted rows plus corner infill, common in retrofits.

Our approach

We start from the target class, the camera positions (if any) and the available mounting positions. The photometric study sets the number of heads per position and the optic for each, so far-throw fixtures get narrow beams and near-field fixtures get wider ones. Every fixture leaves the factory with an aiming reference from the study.

Control

Football venues rarely run at full output. Training, community use, league match and broadcast modes can be programmed as scenes via 0–10V or DALI dimming, cutting energy and spill when full levels are not needed.
